Language Access for New Americans (LANA) improves access to services for refugees and immigrants with limited English skills by improving the quality and increasing the number of interpreters and translators in Maine.

Get Paid to Attend Interpreting for Torture Survivors workshop on February 12
Many of refugees and asylum seekers in Maine are survivors of torture and related trauma. Interpreting for them requires a great deal of versatility because the trauma survivors may be seeing in a variety of settings. Click here for more information.

Learn Basic Skills of Interpreting in April
The 12-hour workshop introduces bilingual individuals and beginning interpreters to the interpreter's role, Code of Ethics, modes of interpreting, and other essential basics of interpreting. Scholarships are currently available for Arabic, Bengali, Dinka, Haitian Creole, Hindi, Korean, Nuer, Serbo-Croatian, Vietnamese, and Zande speakers. For more information, click here.
Join Monthly Interpreter Meetings
The meeting is organized at the initiative of local interpreters and is open to all interpreters and translators in Maine. It is an opportunity to gather on a regular basis, network, and to discuss professional issues. The meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Maine Medical Center.
